Janda Baik
Nestled in the cool climate and layered greenery of Janda Baik, this bungalow is conceived as a quiet retirement retreat.
Arrival unfolds along a winding road welcome by greens. At the bend, a mature feature tree stands as a natural marker anchoring the entrance. The main house opens wide on both sides : one facing expansive forest views with a modest breakfast bar, the other embracing the hillside with shade, intimacy, and a subtle water feature enriching the living spaces.
The bedroom wing is wrapped in perforated panels integrated with planter boxes. This layered skin offers adjustable privacy, filters harsh sunlight, and softens the building’s presence within the forest. By night, the house glows gently, transforming into a lantern nestled among the trees.
Designed with a deliberately small footprint, the house provides only what is essential for its occupants, allowing the land and forest to remain dominant. It is an architecture of restraint—one that respects nature by giving it space, light, and continuity. Here, the built form does not compete with its surroundings, but coexists quietly and amicably, as an expression of care, balance, and enduring connection to the natural environment.
